Overview

poem turns Claude Code and Codex into chats on your Mac. Every coding agent gets its own chat: text it what you want built, and poem pings you when it’s done or when it needs your yes.

It runs the real Claude Code and Codex, signed in with your own accounts, so they work the way they do in Terminal. poem is the place you talk to them.

Who it’s for

  • Developers running more than one agent. Each project gets its own chat instead of another Terminal tab.
  • People who’d rather text than type commands. Ask in plain words, and approve a step with one tap.
  • Anyone away from the desk. poem for iPhone shows your Mac’s chats and pings you when an agent needs you.

What poem can do

Chats per agent

Every project gets its own chat, with Claude Code or Codex, in one list.

poem’s sidebar: a search field, then one chat per project, each with its own picture and the last thing said.

Pings and approvals

A notification when an agent finishes or needs your yes, and Allow or Deny right in the chat.

The Permissions menu for a chat: Ask first, Plan only, Accept edits, Auto and the rest, for what the agent may do without asking.

Usage limits in the chat

Your session and weekly usage, without leaving the chat. When a limit runs out, poem says which one and offers a model with room.

The Accounts menu with Usage: the 5-hour session and the week, each as a percentage, with when they reset.

iPhone and poem relay

poem for iPhone shows your Mac’s chats on your phone. Mac and iPhone talk through poem relay, end-to-end encrypted with a key only they have.

poem for iPhone: a Claude Code chat from the Mac, with its steps and reply, on the phone.

Names and pictures

Give each chat a name and a picture or a color, so you can tell your agents apart at a glance.

A chat’s details: its name with a pencil to rename it, and a row of chat colors to pick from.

Models, thinking and Ultracode

Pick the model and how hard it thinks, chat by chat. Ultracode is one tap in the model menu.

The model menu: Claude models to pick from, an Effort slider from low to max, and an Ultracode switch.

Claude Code and Codex side by side

Both in one list, each with your own account, and up to 3 Claude accounts.

The Accounts menu: two Claude accounts and a Codex account, each signed in on its own.

Runs the official tools

poem launches the unmodified Claude Code and Codex on your Mac. You sign in with them, with your own account. poem never sees your Claude or ChatGPT sign-in, and an API key you add in poem stays in your Mac’s Keychain. If either one isn’t on your Mac yet, poem installs the newest version for you (Claude Code with Anthropic’s own installer, Codex from npm), and it tells you when a newer one is out.

No account. No chat data.

There’s no poem account. Your chats, settings and logs stay on your Mac, in your Library folder. poem itself connects only to poem.chat (updates, your plan, offers and codes, and the daily count), to npm and Claude Code’s release server (to check for newer Claude Code and Codex), to the relay when you pair a phone (end-to-end encrypted, with a key only your Mac and iPhone have), to the site behind a link in a reply (for its preview, with no cookies), and, if you turn voice on, once to npm and Hugging Face for the voice model. The whole policy: poem.chat/privacy.

What we don’t do

  • Once a day Poem sends poem.chat a count of the day before: minutes Poem was in front, messages and chats messaged, with your Mac’s anonymous ID and Poem’s version. Never what’s in your chats. Its plan check carries the same anonymous install ID, and a hash your Mac makes from its hardware ID; the hardware ID itself never leaves your Mac.
  • No third-party analytics in the app: the daily count goes to poem.chat only.
  • No third-party SDKs in the app. Every framework it uses is Apple’s. Voice is opt-in and runs under your own Node with an open-source model.

What’s new

  • Oct 28 · Mac 31Replies stay put when you drag the window narrower, instead of sliding under the sidebar. Every Gmail draft or thread link in a chat now gets its own card to open it, not only the first one.
  • Oct 28 · Mac 30When a connector drops or needs a sign-in, the chat shows a card: Reconnect, claude.ai’s Connectors page, or /mcp in Terminal. No unread dot on a chat you’ve already read while it works. Codex chats start in Work in folder with the network on, every Codex permission card has Allow for This Chat and Full Access, and Codex’s model picker matches Claude’s, with Ultra as a switch.
  • Oct 27 · Mac 29Free poem is now up to 2 chats, started in poem or brought in from Terminal. Pro is unlimited. Also: Settings laid out like your Mac’s System Settings, Incognito chats, and Claude Code and Codex that keep themselves up to date.
  • Oct 22 · iPhonepoem for iPhone is a free beta on TestFlight, so you can answer your Mac’s chats from anywhere.
  • Oct 22 · Mac 26In the model picker, the Effort line lines up with its title, and the level sits right next to it.
  • Oct 21 · Mac 25Opening poem while it’s already running brings its window back, and a Dock click with no window open opens one.
  • Oct 21 · Mac 24Clicking poem in the Dock brings back the window you were in. Connector cards have a Reconnect link, and the chat tries again once you sign in.
  • Oct 21 · Mac 23Settings has a search field, and deleting the open chat opens the next one.
  • Oct 21 · Mac 22The chat stays put while it works: no bouncing after you send, and no jump when steps open and fold.
  • Oct 21 · Mac 21The message box is translucent, like Messages, and a swipe on a chat in the list snaps it open.
